Joint Clinical - Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology

The Dunedin School of Medicine, in association with Southern Community Laboratories, seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a clinical academic to establish themselves in one of the leading medical schools in Australasia.

 

The appointee will provide leadership in teaching and research in the field of Chemical Pathology while supporting an effective and efficient service for chemical pathology patients in the Otago and Southland regions. There are opportunities for wide collaboration with researchers in the University’s well regarded medical and biomedical science departments.

 

In addition to holding the position of Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology at the University of Otago, the appointee will concurrently hold a position as Chemical Pathologist at Southern Community Laboratories. This is a joint University/Hospital position and will be held as single contract with the University. The two separate roles equal to the equivalent of one full-time position.

 

Academic Component – 0.5 FTE

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Pathology, Dunedin School of Medicine and appointed to the position of Senior Lecturer. The appointee will have academic qualifications and prior experience in teaching and research, and will be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There will be significant opportunity for laboratory and clinically-based research.

 

Clinical Component - 0.5 FTE

Southern Community Laboratories provides community and hospital pathology services to the wider South Island of New Zealand. The successful applicant will participate in an on-call roster; clinical duties will form 50% of weekly duties. Alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues, the appointee will provide a full range of Chemical Pathology services. The successful candidate must be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
