Zawadzki, Ph.D., principal investigator on translational research projects involving retinal cell biology, nanotechnology, and ophthalmic imaging. More information about the principal investigator can be found at: The laboratory is located in Tupper Hall on the UC Davis campus. Responsibilities of this position will include planning, execution and presentation of research on mouse retinal imaging. A successful candidate will participate in lab activities, particularly around issues of image acquisition, processing and innovative programming for data acquisition and processing. For example, the incumbent will help with in vivo and ex vivo mouse retinal imaging as well as with selection of retinal areas for testing. This will be done in collaboration with PIs specializing in specific mouse models. Creative solutions will be required to image retinal layers below regions that have been compromised by retina degeneration. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills in communication and writing; as well as the ability to work independently or in a team. Recruitment Description/ The incumbent will participate in planning, execution, and presentation of experiments involving, histology and animal imaging. The incumbent will also participate in lab activities, assist with maintenance of equipment and supplies, in addition to administrative duties involving safety protocols and allocation of grant funds to ensure cost-effectiveness of the research. He/She will prepare manuscripts for publications in collaboration with the principal investigator. Manuscript preparation will include reviewing relevant literature, describing methods and results used to acquire the data, presenting and analyzing data retrieved, constructing clear and informative figures, interpreting the results and discussing how they fit in the current understanding of the field. Depending on the interest and availability of funds, the Junior Specialist will have opportunities to present research findings to a larger audience at scientific conferences or meetings. The incumbent will also assist the principal investigator in presenting progress reports and final summaries to granting agencies as well as lab meetings with other investigators. The Junior Specialist will mentor undergraduate students from UC Davis. He/She will actively contribute to lab activities through staff meetings and presentations to colleagues and researchers from various scientific communities.
