The role of Lecturer in Podiatry is based in the Division of Dietetics, Nutrition and Biological Sciences, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Radiography (DPPR). The role holder will contribute to the planning, delivery and assessment of learning and teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate podiatric programmes, and where appropriate, other programmes across the Division and School. The role holder will be a current and experienced practitioner with their own area of interest and expertise.


The subject area of Podiatry currently delivers a four-year Honours pre-registration degree and post-registration Masters provision in the subject area. There is also an ongoing successful undergraduate collaboration with partners in Greece, and a home collaboration for a Dip HE (Podiatry Assistant). The academic staff members are dynamic and innovative in their approaches to learning, teaching and research and enterprise.


Divisional staff supervise PhD and Professional Doctorate students from the University's Graduate School. In addition to learning and teaching activities the role holder will be expected to engage in scholarly/research and/or knowledge exchange activity in relation to the Divisional Strategic Plan.


The Division is committed to providing academic programmes that integrate university and clinically based study to enable podiatrists and other health and social care professionals of the future to have strong clinical ability in order to develop and advance their practice. 


The School, with its breadth of health care professional programmes including; Physiotherapy, Dietetics and Nutrition, Podiatry, Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Art Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences and Nursing, is in a unique position to develop opportunities for multi-professional and inter-disciplinary learning and teaching and research.




Role Purpose


- Teach facilitate and assess learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels


- Plan and develop practice-based learning


- Contribute to module and programme development, quality assurance and review


- Undertake relevant roles within the programmes, Division and School as required


- To consider external influences e.g. relevant policy and drivers and the future impact this may have on the programmes and profession


- Engage in scholarship/research/knowledge exchange/commercial activity as appropriate


- To take independent/collaborative decisions regarding placement and student issues as appropriate


- Use initiative, experience and knowledge to solve problems


- As an active member of the team, contribute to building and maintaining team morale and to be supportive and encouraging of others


- Work collaboratively within the Division and School as appropriate


- Provide pastoral and welfare care for students


Principal duties or Key objectives


1. Deliver teaching, fostering debate and encourage the development of intellectual reasoning and rigour with students within the Subject Area and across the Division


2. Participate in curriculum development and design


3. Engage in relevant scholarship/research/knowledge exchange/commercial activity


4. Participate in networks within the institution or externally if required


5. Provide pastoral care to undergraduate and postgraduate students


6. Facilitate and support placement educators in their role with QM students


7. Contribute to the running of the Division as appropriately directed by the Head of Division or their representative



Person Specification - Essential


HCPC registration as a Podiatrist


Holding, or working towards (near completion), a postgraduate degree in an area relevant to Podiatry


Expert knowledge in an area of specialism relevant to podiatric practice


Recent experience of working as a Podiatrist (in on or more of the following: NHS/private sector/education)


Experience of undertaking assessment and facilitating learning and teaching in a professional setting


Evidence of translating research into practice and/or experience of knowledge exchange


Strong written and verbal communication skills


Proven decision-making abilities, organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines


Experience of multi-disciplinary team working and of leadership


Competent in the use of information technology
