• a detailed curriculum vitae and cover letter (please note that the first three (3) referees on your CV will be contacted with regard to reference checking);
• certified copies (not older than 6 months) of all academic records;
• certified copies (not older than 6 months) of qualifications (please provide the SAQA accreditation in the case of foreign qualifications);
• a certified copy (not older than 6 months) of your identity document (ID);
• Proof of current registration with the Health  Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA);
• An official letter from training institution confirming attainment of diagnostic privileges (if not yet registered with HPCSA);
• A copy of your driver’s license;
• Proof of published article (paper).

Duties and responsibilities:

• Teach Contact Lenses and Ethics modules.
• Set and mark tests and examinations for the above modules.
• Teach and supervise students in clinical settings.
• Teach practicals as assigned by the head of department.
• Perform administrative work regarding the modules offered by service departments.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects.
• Supervise students in Inter-professional education projects.
• Participate in community-based education.

Inherent requirements:

• A Master degree on NQF level 9 (nine) in Optometry.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in Contact Lenses.
• Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
• At least one (1) published article (paper) in an accredited journal.
• Registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent optometrist with diagnostic privileges or an official letter from the training institution confirming that the applicant has qualified with diagnostic privileges (attach proof).
• A valid driver’s license.

- The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others.
- The ability to interact with others and establish personal connections with people.

Recommendations:

• Doctoral degree or willingness to enrol for a doctoral degree in Optometry at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
• Teaching experience in Contact Lenses and Ethics modules.

Assumption of duties:

As soon as possible.
