About the School of Pharmacy

 

The School of Pharmacy is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia with over 50 academic staff (including joint appointments with community and hospital pharmacy) who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds. A team of administrative, scientific and IT staff provide operational support, and over 50 people are employed through the School on research grants and other contracts. The School of Pharmacy has experienced tremendous growth in student numbers, research productivity and professional pharmacy involvement over recent years.

 

The School offers a Bachelor of Pharmacy Honours (4 years) taught across four integrated streams of study:

  • Pharmaceutical Sciences

  • Social Pharmacy and the Health System

  • Pharmacy Practice and Medicines Management, and

  • Work-integrated Learning.

 

Students also have the option of undertaking a research-focussed Major in Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics.

 

The University of Queensland is the highest-ranking Australian university with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) program (as measured by the 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities).

 

The School’s postgraduate programs include:

  • The Intern Training program

  • Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice program suites (postgraduate)

  • Pharmaceutical Industry Practice program suite (postgraduate)

 

The School has active research groups in areas ranging from Therapeutic Targeting, Pharmacometrics, and Quality Use of Medicines. Research funds are obtained from government and private sources including ARC, NHMRC, MRFF, Queensland Cancer Fund, Federal and State governments and the pharmaceutical industry.

About This Opportunity 

 

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lecturer to join our world-class School of Pharmacy. This teaching & research position offers the incumbent the opportunity to develop their teaching and research profiles within the broader discipline area of medicines management and pharmacy practice.

 

This role will have an initial focus on coordinating and teaching a second year course within the medicines management and pharmacy practice stream for the B.Pharm (Hons) program. In addition, some course development work will be required, and you may also teach across other programs within the School of Pharmacy and other courses that are the responsibility of the School of Pharmacy.

 

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Contribute to the development of new programs and course material in the area of focus, by consulting with program advisors and stakeholders, ensuring courses are engaging, relevant and contemporary.

  • Teach across different settings and actively contribute towards educational practice and innovative curriculum design including online learning and alternative teaching methods.

  • Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, and undertake assessment and marking for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

  • Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development and conduct of joint research projects and applications for external research funding, which includes actively seeking, obtaining and managing research funding.

  • Maintain an active and effective record of publishing in high quality national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications and conference publications.

  • Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Maintain both contemporary clinical knowledge within pharmacy and recency of practice.

  • Efficiently manage allocated internal service roles and processes, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

 

This opportunity is available for applicants considering both full-time or part-time (minimum 60%) working arrangements. This is a fixed-term position through to 31 December 2024 at Academic level B. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $104,579 - $124,187, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $122,358 - $145,299 annually.

About You  

  • A PhD in the broad area that is medicines management and pharmacy practice.

  • A growing profile in teaching and research in the area of medicines management and pharmacy practice.

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching, which can be at undergraduate, honours or postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.

  • Contributions to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the area of medicines management and pharmacy practice. Experience in course coordination is desirable.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

 

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 

  • AHPRA registration: It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent holds and maintains (or demonstrates eligibility to do so) full AHPRA registration.
