The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and
in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. Successful candidates will join the Neuroinflammation group, led by Prof. Michael Heneka, which aims at understanding molecular mechanisms of inflammatory regulation in a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, using novel preclinical mouse models and state-of-the-art techniques like two-photon imaging, transcriptome analysis and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), to develop new biomarkers and medical intervention programs. 

Your role

The highly motivated scientific officer/project manager will support the Director of the LCSB, Prof. Michael Heneka in the management of his research group (Neuroinflammation) including and national and international stakeholder management. The scientific officer/project manager oversees the planning and execution of the research projects of the group. A close alignment with the laboratory manager of the group is expected.

  • Support in administrative aspects of grant application to national and international funding agencies
  • Monitor project schedule, progress, milestones, deadlines and budget of external funded projects
  • Coordinate the writing and collection of information for various project reports to external funders
  • Coordinating and writing applications to the national ethic committee (CNER) and or the University ethics advisory committee
  • Liaise for GDPR related request with the legal team and the Data Protection officer at the University
  • Support in the recruitment of research staff, e.g. screening of candidates
  • Support in the organization of scientific conferences and events
  • Work and align closely with scientists of the Neuroinflammation group, internal and external collaborators, the LCSB grants and finance office, the LCSB legal office and other stakeholders

 

Your profile
  • PhD in biomedicine or related field with experience in neuroscience research
  • The ideal candidate has experience with fundamental and translational research in the field of neurobiology
  • Knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques, animal models of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders and translational neuroscience research is considered an asset
  • Practical experience in science management, especially project management
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, solid stakeholder management and strong communication skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt and effectively organize, prioritize, and execute tasks in a highly dynamic environment with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a team and work also independently. Also a proactive attitude is expected
  • Knowledge of the European and Luxembourg research and innovation systems is considered an asset
  • Excellent oral and writing skills in English. Additional good knowledge of German, French, and Luxembourgish are considered an asset

The yearly gross salary for every Postdoctoral Researcher at the UL is EUR 83099 (full time).
