An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Molecular Diagnostics Fellow to join the research group of Professor Anna Schuh, Director of Molecular Diagnostics, Department of Oncology. The position is ideally suited for a senior specialist registrar in haematology with prior experience in clinical trials who wishes to pursue a career in molecular diagnostics and clinical academic research. Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathology is desirable, but not essential. The position is a unique opportunity to receive postgraduate training in molecular medicine and early detection work.


The post will be mainly based at the Oxford Molecular Diagnostic Centre, an inter-disciplinary Centre funded to undertake major programmes of translational research in molecular diagnostics in cancer and haematological malignancies within the University of Oxford; there is a particular focus on development and evaluation of next-generation genomic technologies for use in clinical diagnostics.


Responsibilities include day-to-day cover for all clinical aspects of the OxPLored study as well as assisting in on-going collaborative work in the Centre, including designing experiments and analysing data with collaborators. You will also organise and supervise sample analysis from patients recruited into clinical trials and/or samples from research collaborations. You will assist with running and further developing the trial portfolio for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, including early detection and high-grade transformation.


You will have a degree in medicine and will be a GMC registered Medical Practitioner (or eligible for registration). You will be a specialist registrar in haematology and will have substantial experience/training in the field, ideally in genetics, pathology or appropriate clinical speciality. You will also have research experience and a demonstrable track record of publishing scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, together with demonstrable experience of staff management and motivation.
