PhD fellowship in Ribosome biology in Cancer at The Biotech Research and Innovation Centre

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

We are offering a PhD fellowship in Ribosome Biology in Cancer commencing November 1st, 2019.

It is becoming clear that the ribosome is not a constitutive protein production machine. Rather, its activities are likely regulated by alterations in rRNA modification states and ribosomal protein composition. Furthermore, there is accumulating evidence that pools of specialized ribosomes exist in the cell. Our work focuses on deciphering the functional significance of ribosome modifications and how this knowledge may be exploited in the development of new therapies.

Our group and research

The Lund group is an international and dynamic research group comprising several postdocs, PhD students and Masters students. Research in the Lund group currently has several focuses including the function and regulation of various classes of non-coding RNAs in human diseases (http://www.bric.ku.dk/Research/Lund_Group/). The projects are interdisciplinary and we have a large network of national and international collaborators. We value team work and strive towards a creative, collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.

Project description

The successful candidate will develop a research project aimed at characterizing the functional roles of specific rRNA modifications in selective translation and disease development. The group has a broad technical expertise enabling us to investigate the significance of ribosome modification patterns using a combination of HTP sequencing techniques, genetics and biochemical approaches. Hence, the projects will be conducted in collaboration will other group members.
