Ph.D. position in long non-coding RNA in cardiovascular research13.01.2021, Wissenschaftliches Personal To strengthen our team, we are offering a Ph.D. position in long non-coding RNA in cardiovascular research. We are interested in the function of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) within the heart and more specifically, cardiac macrophages. About the lab We are interested in the function of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) within the heart and more specifically, cardiac macrophages. Immune cells play important roles in the progression of diseases or injuries such as heart failure due to pressure overload or myocardial infarction. We are using biochemistry, cell biology and in vivo mouse models to bridge basic science and translational medicine. We want to understand how lncRNAs influence cardiac macrophage biology, the mechanisms they employ as well as their function in the greater context of cardiac health and disease. Ultimately, we aim to identify novel lncRNAs that may be targeted as candidates for new therapeutic approaches. The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology (IPT) is part of the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), one of the leading universities in the European Union. The institute's research focuses on non-coding RNAs, their control of cardiac gene expression, and the effects of their therapeutic manipulation in cardiac disease. The institute's state-of-the-art research facility includes a fully equipped mouse cardiac phenotyping lab, a viral vector core, and the entire experimental pipeline for next-generation sequencing from tissue or single-cells, including FACS-based cell separation. Furthermore, the IPT coordinates and receives funding from the DFG Collaborative Research Center TRR267 "Non-coding RNA in the Cardiovascular System" and is the Munich partner site of the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK). The outstanding infrastructure and experience present in the institute provide an ideal environment for a project to succeed. • M.Sc. or Diploma in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biotechnology or a related discipline. • A 3-year contract with the possibility to prolong (payment according to TV-L (E13 / 65%)) TUM has been pursuing the strategic goal of substantially increasing the diversity of its staff. As an equal opportunity and af-firmative action employer, TUM explicitly encourages nominations of and applications from women as well as from all others who would bring additional diversity dimensions to the university’s research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications.
