PhD inRho GTPase function in the nucleus in the Brakebusch lab at BRIC

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen, Denmark

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 3 year PhD position starting in October 2020 in the Brakebusch lab. The Brakebusch lab is located at the Biotech Research and Innovation Center (BRIC) (www.bric.ku.dk/Research/Brakebusch_Group/), which is a Center of Excellence in biomedical research with around 200 scientists.

Our research

The ubiquitously expressed Rho GTPases RhoA, Rac1 and Cdc42 are important regulators of the cytoskeleton, but also involved in signal transduction processes regulating proliferation, differentiation and survival. While the cytoplasmic role of Rho GTPases is well described, little is known about the function of Rho GTPases in the nucleus, although actin polymerisation has demonstrated in the nucleus and is suggested to be involved in different nuclear processes such as the regulation of gene expression or DNA repair. Using novel genetic tools we would like to investigate now the specific function of Rho GTPases in the nucleus.

Your job

Using novel genetic tools you will investigate how nuclear Rho GTPase regulate nuclear morphology, DNA repair, gene expression, and replication in cultured cells. Based on the results it is planned to generate a genetically modified mouse strain to study nuclear Rho GTPase function in development and disease in vivo.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • A Master degree in biological/biomedical science
  • Enthusiasm for experimental research and an ambitious mindset
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience in cell culture and molecular biology
  • Experience in CRISPR genome editing
