POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWMcGovern Institute for Brain Research (multiple positions), to join the Abudayyeh-Gootenberg Lab and work on a research project to develop tools for genome editing and gene therapy and apply these tools towards understanding and treating age-associated diseases. The project involves studying viruses and viral-like particles from both eukaryotes and prokaryotes that are capable of transferring genetic material between cells, with the ultimate goals of generating delivery vectors with larger carrying capacity than conventional techniques and applying directed evolution approaches to tailor particle tropism to different tissues like the brain. The research will involve delving into the mechanisms of viral like particle formation, particle entry into diverse mammalian cells, and the design and functional testing of vectors for transduction efficiency. Responsibilities will include molecular cloning, protein design, bacterial assays, mammalian cell culture, directed evolution, and animal work for evaluating tissue delivery; working closely with research technicians, students, and principal investigators; engaging with the scientific community through collaborations, conference talks, and publications. The position is ideal for someone interested in making a major impact in the gene editing field.
