Dr. Campana, a Professor of Anesthesiology and Program in Neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow in the area of glial biology and chronic pain. The laboratory is known for its contributions to the biology, signaling, and regulation of Schwann cells and their role in neuropathic pain. We are looking for highly motivated candidates to lead projects that include identification of new biological actions for glial derived small extracellular vesicles and their effects on autocrine/paracrine communication during acute and chronic pain. We use a multidisciplinary approach that includes transgenic, knockout, and knock-in mice, normal and diseased patient plasma, and in vivo pain model systems to elucidate physiological and pathological mechanisms related to signal transduction, gene regulation, and cellular activities that mitigate and exacerbate pain states. State-of-the-art methodologies are used in vitro and in vivo, including a range of next generation sequencing approaches and novel mass spectroscopy approaches. The laboratory is highly interactive with collaborators at UCSD, Vanderbilt, NYU, and Chiba University.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D., preferably within the last three years, in molecular and cellular biology with an emphasis in neurosciences. The ideal candidate will be innovative, interactive, have a strong background in neuroscience and/or molecular biology. The successful applicants should have a proven academic publication track record, including first-authored publications, as well as excellent scientific, organizational, record-keeping, problem-solving skills. The successful candidates will conduct both independent and collaborative research within a productive scientific lab group. The candidates are also encouraged to explore new research areas and seek independent funding as part of their own career development.

The candidate must have received a Ph.D. and/or an M.D. degree. The candidate will be supported by NIH and VA funded awards.

Applications must be submitted through the University of California San Diego's Academic Personnel RECRUIT system at: Applications should include a curriculum vitae, brief cover letter summarizing current research and career goals, and the names and contact information of 2-3 references.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
