Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry Synthesis and Catalysis
Stockholm University Department of Organic Chemistry

Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry, Synthesis and Catalysis

at the Department of Organic Chemistry. 17 June 2019.

The Department of Organic Chemistry has an extensive research program. This research program covers many areas of experimental and theoretical chemistry including metal catalysis, asymmetric synthesis, as well as several areas of bioorganic chemistry such as carbohydrate chemistry and enzyme chemistry.

Project description

The postdoctoral fellow will join the research group of Dr Francisco Juliá-Hernández.

Our research focuses on the invention, design and application of sustainable synthetic transformations of interest for organic chemistry. Our main motivation is to use abundant and inexpensive metals as catalysts to streamline previously unfeasible synthetic routes. For this project, we aim to uncover new synthetic pathways to functionalize small molecules using base metal catalysts and photocatalysts.

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria

The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

The candidate must have a PhD degree in chemistry with significant research experience in organic synthesis, organometallic chemistry and/or homogeneous catalysis. Knowledge of transition metal catalysis, photocatalysis and reaction optimization is desired, but not required. Excellent communication skills in English, scientific creativity and independent thinking are essential.

Terms of employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2019-07-01 (flexible) or as per agreement.
