Several of our researchers also work as specialist physicians at the clinics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which we consider as a great advantage. The current groups are led by Rheumatologist and Professor Inger Gjertsson and B-cell expert and Professor Lill Mårtensson and consist of postdocs, PhD students and undergraduate students.

Subject area description

Autoimmune diseases affect 5-7% of the population and are in most cases chronic. Our research group studies how B cells and antibodies develop under autoimmune conditions and whether they can be used to predict disease onset and disease progression. We focus on rheumatoid arthritis and on rheumatic autoimmune manifestations following cancer treatment with check-point inhibitors.

Job assignments

  • Handling of tissue and blood from humans
  • Flow cytometry, confocal and light microscopy, cell cultures, analyzes using molecular biology and immunological methods
  • Extraction, handling and analysis of clinical data
  • Supervision of students

Eligibility

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.

Assessment

  • Biologist / molecular biologist/MD with a PhD in relevant field
  • Previous knowledge in handling human blood and tissues
  • Highly knowledgeable in flow cytometry
  • The ability to perform all routine analyzes performed in an immunological lab
  • Knowledge in how to handle clinical data
  • Good knowledge of immunology and rheumatology is of great value

Great emphasis will be put on structured working methods, good ability to cooperate and personal suitability.
