A joint postdoctoral position (MD, PhD, MD-PhD) will be available from March 1st, 2020 at the Department of Nuclear Medicine/Cardiac Imaging, University Hospital Zurich and the Center for Molecular Cardiology of the University of Zurich in the field of cardiovascular gender medicine to complement our multidisciplinary research team.


The Department of Nuclear Medicine/Cardiac Imaging at the University Hospital Zurich pursues a wide range of activities in the field of research, teaching, and services regarding imaging and functional examinations of patients with radiotracers and has a strong research program in the field of cardiac imaging (PET, SPECT, CCTA, and CMR). The Center for Molecular Cardiology of the University of Zurich is a specialized institution in the field of cardiovascular biology and is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.


Your responsibilities

Research in this group comprises clinical, translational, and experimental projects in the field of cardiovascular gender medicine. Our current work focuses on sex-specific aspects of the aging cardiovascular system as well as gender differences in heart-brain-crosstalk. We perform retrospective and prospective clinical studies, in vivo CMR and PET imaging in mice as well as in vitro work in cardiomyocytes.


Responsibilities for this position includes but are not limited to:

The appointed postdoc should have a strong background in Gender Medicine and/or Cardiovascular Research and will conduct clinical and translational research, as well as pre-clinical cardiac PET/MR imaging.


Specific areas include:

• Patient recruitment, conduction of cardiac imaging exams (PET, CMR), image analysis, data collection, and statistical analysis.

• Common molecular and cell biology techniques and in vitro assays.

• Animal work: in vivo CMR and PET imaging acquisition, reconstruction, and data analysis.

• Supervision of students, teaching, and close collaboration with other members of the lab.

• Data presentation, manuscript and grant writing.


Your profile

Candidates must hold MD, PhD or MD/PhD degree. Successful candidates should be ambitious, creative, and highly motivated, with an outstanding record of academic achievements.


Essential requirements are:

An excellent record of productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and academic awards. Furthermore, ideal candidates will have knowledge and experience in cardiovascular research and cardiac imaging. Prior experience in animal experimentation is an advantage. Excellent English language skills (written and oral) are mandatory.

The position is available for two years with the possibility to be prolonged depending on the progress made.

Duration of the employment: 2 years with possible extension depending on availability of funds.
