About the Role

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistants to undertake research into the development of viro-immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer under the supervision of Professor Yaohe Wang. The research will be based in the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers & Biotherapeutics at Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London.

About You

The appointee will develop an effective therapeutic regime using a novel viro-immunotherapeutic agent that was recently developed in our lab, together with combinations of chemotherapy and other immunotherapies. Essential requirements for this post include a PhD in cancer subject and an undergraduate degree in a biological subject. Significant research laboratory experience in virology, Immunology, viral vector construction, molecular biology and animal models is essential. Experience with some or all of the following would be an advantage: gene cloning, Western blotting, FACS, ELISA, CTL assay, IFN-γ ELISPOT assay and in vivo imaging. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.

About the Project

The project will involve the evaluation of the combination of cytokine-armed oncolytic vaccinia virus with a PI-3kinase inhibitor and the chemotherapeutic agent gemcitabine as well as a-PDI in animal models. The project will require construction of new oncolytic viruses and the analysis of the biodistribution of the virus by molecular pathology and viral titre, as well as immunohistochemical and ELISA analysis of cytokine expression in a variety of tumour and normal organ tissues. Investigation of the efficacy of the therapeutic combination will be conducted in transgenic (KPC) mice and Syrian hamster tumour models of pancreatic cancer, with detailed immunophenotyping and molecular pathology.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is full time, fixed term appointment for 18 months, with an expected start date of April 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £34,220 - £40,194 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
