Summary Description


The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with interest in epidemiology of aging and health disparities. The fellow will join a research team with active NIH and foundation funded projects investigating quantification of biological aging, risk factors for accelerated aging, and interventions to slow biological processes of aging and extend healthspan. The research conducted includes clinical and population-based studies, with extensive epidemiologic, clinical, and genomic data.


The fellow is expected to increase her/his methodological and substantive knowledge of studies of aging, build skills for developing and implementing research studies focused on genomic analysis of biological aging, and lead and co-author manuscript publications. S/he will perform population health research activities, including designing and conducting studies, performing data analyses, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and delivering presentations at scientific meetings. Opportunities to develop and write funding proposals are also available.


The position offers two years of postdoctoral fellowship with compensation commensurate with experience, excellent benefits package and funds for travel to professional conferences and meetings, and potential to extend the fellowship into a third year. Individuals with the following characteristics will be competitive for the position: strong motivation and commitment to a career in aging research, excellent communication and quantitative skills, ability to conduct self-directed and collaborative research. Experience with analysis of genomic data is a plus, but is not required. Training and co-mentoring in genomic analysis is available through the Baccarelli Lab, and access to additional training and mentoring are also available through the Robert N Butler Columbia Aging Center and the Department of Epidemiology.


Minimum Degree Required

Doctoral degree or terminal

Minimum Qualifications

PhD, DrPH or other doctoral degree in epidemiology, social/ behavioral science, population health, biostatistics, or a closely related field. Candidates with prior postdoctoral training are also eligible to apply.
