Summary Description

The Elyaman Laboratory in the Center for Translational & Computational Neuroimmunology (CTCN), in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC), is currently seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the field of neuroimmunology to join our research effort in investigating the role of the immune system in neurodegenerative diseases.

This position offers a stimulating and multi-disciplinary environment. The fellow will work as part of a team of researchers at CUMC that includes neuroimmunologists and computational biologists. He or she will join an ongoing research program that examines immune cell phenotype and function using fresh blood, CSF and brain autopsies in neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Functional experiments will be integrated with epigenomic and single cell transcriptomic characterization of the experimental system as part of a NIH-funded program. Promising human gene targets will be manipulated in animal models of MS and AD.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have a good working knowledge of experimental methods in cellular /molecular immunology in vitro and in animal models. Experience in genetics and epigenetics is an advantage but is not required. Effective communication and organization skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also mandatory for this position. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented, with excellent laboratory skills. Time-management, multitasking and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced research program are essential.
