Junior Postdoctoral Researcher Genetic and Epigenetic Regulation of Heart Development and Regeneration

The group of Nadia Mercader studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms of heart development and regeneration. Using the zebrafish model and combining genetic manipulations with omic approaches, we investigate how cardiomyocyte proliferation is influenced by different cell types including fibroblasts and macrophages and how cardiac precursor cells acquire cell fate identity during development. We are also interested in studying the mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance caused by cardiac injury across generations.

The group is located at the Institute of Anatomy, within the Medical faculty of the University of Bern. It is also embedded into the Cardiovascular Research Cluster that includes several groups working at the University of Bern and University Hospital Inselspital. The Mercader group also has an affiliation to the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares CNIC.

The candidate will work on a research project in the frame of the ERC Consolidator Grant TransReg 81971 and will also be involved in further research projects in the group by providing support with bioinformatics analysis such us
  • scRNA-seq, small RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics.
  • ATAC-seq, Cut&Run, CHIP-seq analysis.
  • Academic Degree: PhD (obtained 2019 or later, but if justified also earlier time-points are accepted)
  • Training in bioinformatics, good knowledge in programming languages R and Python, previous experience in transcriptomics analysis
  • Background in life sciences and interest in biological questions.
  • Previous experience with zebrafish omic approaches will be a plus
  • Fluent in English including good scientific writing skills, knowledge in German will be a plus
We offer
  • A postdoctoral Researcher position with a competitive salary for 2 years with options of extension. Starting date March 2023 or upon agreement.
  • A stimulating, cooperative, and supportive environment and close collaboration with international research teams.
