Postdoctoral Researcher on Mitochondrial Impairment in Human Disease

To strengthen our team, we are seeking a Postdoctoral researcher on mitochondrial impairment in human disease. The Institute of Toxicology and Environmental Hygiene is part of the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), one of the leading universities of Germany (https://www.mri.tum.de/toxikologie-und-umwelthygienewww.tum.de)

About our research group and our institute

The Institute of Toxicology and Environmental Hygiene is part of the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), one of the leading universities of Germany (https://www.mri.tum.de/toxikologie-und-umwelthygienewww.tum.de).
Our institute takes the lead in „Mitochondrial Toxicology“. These intra-cellular powerhouses are sensitive targets that integrate and execute cell death decisions (Ingold et al. Cell 2018, Fessler et al. Nature 2020). Therefore, mitochondrial damage is a key determinant in human disease. Using appropriate animal models, we have demonstrated such damage, e.g. in Wilson disease a life threatening copper storage disease. This work has led us to the targeted development of new and most efficient treatment compounds (Lichtmannegger et al. JCI 2016) that have been licensed for further development into the clinics. To expand further in this direction, we seek highly motivated Postdoctoral fellows.

We offer

• Working in an international team with a strong expertise and motivation and a scientific output of highest quality.

• A state-of-the-art research facility, with disease-relevant animal and cellular models, high reso-lution respirometry, electron microscopy, flow cytometry, and a unique armamentarium to study mitochondrial (dys-) function.

• Participation in productive, multidisciplinary interactions with our collaborators, in the clinics, pharmaceutical industry and academics.

• As member of the TUM, you will benefit from programmes for early career support and pro-grammes to enhance compatibility of family life and career.

• The position is available as of now and initially limited to three years, with the option of exten-sion. Your salary grouping will be according to level TVL-13.

Your qualifications

- Highly motivated scientist and commitment to scientific excellence.

- Practical experience in biochemistry, cell culture and, ideally, animal experiment experience.

- Previous work in mitochondrial research is favourable, but not obligatory.

- You have a high degree of responsibility, are independent and enjoy working in a team.

- Flexibility, proactive attitude and interpersonal skills.

- Good command of English (written and oral)

Your application

The TUM aims to substantially increase diversity of its staff. As equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, the TUM explicitly encourages nominations of and applications from women as well as from all others who would bring additional diversity dimensions to the university’s research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications.
