Post-Doctoral Researcher in School of Nursing and Midwifery

0.4 FTE, 6 Month, Fixed-Term, Part-Time Post

Position summary

The School of Nursing and Midwifery are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Researcher to work on a project funded through the EU Joint Programme on Neurodegenerative Disease (JPND).

The MySupport study is part of a six country consortium (United Kingdom (Belfast); Republic of Ireland (Cork County); Netherlands (Leiden); Canada (Hamilton, Montreal); Czech Republic (Prague); Italy (Turin)) aimed at up scaling the Family Carer Decision Support (FCDS) Intervention. The Family Carer Decision Support (FCDS) intervention has been designed to inform family carers about end-of-life care options available to a person living with advanced dementia. Specific objectives include 1) adapt the application of the FCDS for use in different countries; 2) identify optimal conditions for the successful implementation of the FCDS intervention; and, 3) assess outcomes associated with the FCDS intervention. A multiple case study design will be used where a care home will be the unit of analysis or ‘case’. 12 care homes will be enrolled that provide care for residents living with dementia in six countries, two care homes per country. Further to the implementation of the FCDS in two sites in Ireland the team at UCC in collaboration with All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) are leading on the Knowledge Exchange and Communication work package. At the core of this is to support and develop young researchers in dementia and palliative care research.

The Post-Doctoral Researcher employed on this project will have the opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team, engaging with national and international experts on dementia palliative care. The role will encompass project management but will also include a tailored post-doctoral training programme. The position would be suited to someone with significant health-related research experience and an interest in dementia palliative care and/or case study methodology.
