Professor within Regulatory Science (part time, fixed-term, 5 years)

Job description

In considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant’s ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of Regulatory Science or related areas, in combination with practical experience with drug or drug-device regulatory system either from the pharmaceutical industry or from regulatory bodies.

CORS seeks to improve the drug regulatory system and thereby contribute to an improvement of the health of the society and sustainable drug innovation, through research and education in regulatory science. CORS research is focused on research evaluating functioning of the regulatory system, including research into relationships between regulations and regulatory instruments give rise to the collective functioning of the regulatory system, and how the regulatory system interact and form relationships with its environment, such as pharmaceutical development and clinical practice.

The professor is expected to contribute actively in the further development of CORS. This includes building up a solid scientific environment within the University of Copenhagen and with international relations to other universities dedicated to the field, drug regulatory authorities and relevant organisations and companies.

Further to this the professor will be part of a team addressing the increasing educational needs within Regulatory Science.

The professor’s duties will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examinations
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
  • Establish and maintain contact to relevant international collaborators

Required qualifications

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Document a strong level of practical experience with the National and or European/global Medicine Regulatory System
  • Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
  • Demonstrate abilities within international collaboration and networking
  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Provide research based teaching

The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2020).

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.  All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
