Current research within this field is at the Department of Pharmacy mainly comprised by research activities in the Protein Analysis Group, but linked to activities in many other research groups. Biopharmaceuticals represent the fastest growing class of drugs in development in the pharmaceutical industry. However, advanced bioanalytical chemistry methods capable of analyzing the structure, interactions and quantity of these large and complex biomolecules is critical to unleash the full pharmaceutical potential of such biological molecules and guide and drive their pharmaceutical development.

The candidate’s research should focus on bioanalytical chemistry of biopharmaceuticals and protein drug targets, and the application and development of new analytical methods to analyse their structure, purity and quantity. Experience in the use of liquid chromatography/separations and mass spectrometry for analysis of proteins is considered important. Expertise in the use of hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry or other covalent labelling strategies to analyse the higher-order structure and interactions of proteins of pharmaceutical relevance is considered important for the position. The candidate should preferably also demonstrate experience in collaboration with the pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry, and experience in teaching and dissemination within the field. As the chair in this research field, the appointee is expected to play a significant role in the strategic effort to promote bioanalytical chemistry with emphasis on biopharmaceuticals and protein targets to strengthen the impact on the development of new drugs.
