Duties and responsibilities
 
Research, development and creative activities
  • High-level RDC activities, incl. leading and directing RDC activities in the fields of clinical genetics and return of genetic data with corresponding research publishing, public engagement, leading of workgroups and other required activities in the Univ. of Tartu research projects, incl. PRG555 "Evaluation of genetic variants potentially linked to actionable health risks" and TK142 "Centre of Excellence for Genomics and Translational Medicine".
  • Directing RDC activities in the specialisation and taking care that necessary resources, incl. research grants are available for it and being responsible for the efficiency of RDC activities.
  • Leading the workgroup of clinical genetics and return of genetic data in the Institute of Genomics.
  • Applying for funding and executing ongoing projects according to the development plan of the Institute of genomics, of the University of Tartu.
  • Internationally recognized research in five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of two doctoral theses.
  • Supervision of academic staff members involved in RDC activities.
  • Participation in the research-organizational activities of international dimension.
  • Participation in the development of specialist terminology or in the organisation thereof.
  • Development of skills necessary for RDC activities, and professional development.

Teaching and activities related to the administration and development of teaching

  • Teaching of primarily master’s and doctoral students, using modern teaching methods and educational technology, and supervision of students, incl. doctoral students. Doctoral dissertations have been defended under the supervision of the professor in five years.
  • Ensuring the availability of future academic staff in the field.
  • Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.

Participation in university governance and institutional development.

Social and public activities.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
 
Required experience
Postdoctoral studies. Professional training in clinical genetics or genetic counselling with practical working experience in these fields recommended.

Research, development and creative activities

  • Internationally recognized researcher with published papers in clinical genetics, broader use of genetic data, return of genetic data and its social aspects. Past and present international and national collaborations.
  • Ability to direct RDC activities in the fields of clinical genetics and return of genetic data, lead a research group and supervise academic staff members.
  • Internationally recognised professional research, the volume of which so far is equivalent to that of at least three doctoral theses.
  • Ongoing active engagement in research: internationally recognized research in the last five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of 1.5 doctoral thesis.
  • Active participation and leading role in international scientific consortia.

Teaching and activities related to the administration and development of teaching

  • Ability to organise teaching and teach at all levels of higher education.
  • Effective supervising of master’s and doctoral students, incl. at least one supervised doctoral dissertation defended.

Participation in university governance and institutional development

  • Experience in team or project management.

Social and public activities

  • Participation in activities related to the promotion and implementation of the specialisation at the national or international level.
