The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Children’s Orthopaedic Center (COC), are actively seeking a full-time faculty member for the position of Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Pediatric Division Chief.

In this position, he/she is expected to spend time in clinical education related to specialty areas and provide clinical service with scoliosis and spinal deformity, neuromuscular, hip preservation, bone and soft tissue, hand and upper extremity, sports medicine, trauma, or other orthopaedic conditions. The remainder of the time will be in administration, teaching and research.

The COC at Children's Hospital Los Angeles serves children from newborns to young adults and ranks 4th in the nation for pediatric orthopaedic programs, according to U.S. News & World Report. The Center is known for its expertise in diagnosing and treating children with all types of pediatric orthopaedic conditions and excels at the latest surgeries and therapies. The surgeons are nationally recognized for their skills at performing complex surgeries which include nerve transfers, joint preservation and replacement, and limb lengthening.

Programs and Services

  • Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors Program - The program is one of the largest in the country with a team of experts recognized for treating cancerous and noncancerous tumors, while also saving children’s limbs.
  • Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program – This is the West Coast’s largest pediatric Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program specializing in nerve and muscle transfers. CHLA is a national leader in acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) treatments.
  • Children’s Spine Center- The Center is first on the West Coast and third in the country for scoliosis and pediatric spine care. Across the nation, one in five children needing spine care come to CHLA.
  • Comprehensive Clubfoot Clinic - Experts in the Comprehensive Clubfoot Clinic specialize in the “gold-standard” Ponseti method. The team uses gentle manipulations and a series of casts to successfully correct clubfoot, offering surgical treatments as needed.
  • Hand and Upper Extremity Orthopaedic Program – The program specializes in complex problems, such as amputations, congenital hand disorders, cerebral palsy and compartment syndrome, in addition to treating nerve and tendon injuries.
  • Hip Preservation Program - Experts in the Hip Preservation Program help children with hip dysplasia, Perthes disease and other hip problems stay mobile. This is currently the only comprehensive pediatric hip disorder program in Los Angeles County.
  • Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Program – CHLA is among a select few children’s hospitals in the country with a Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Program. The program offers specialized surgical and nonsurgical treatments for complex limb disorders.
  • Pediatric Orthopaedic Neuromuscular Program – CHLA is the West Coast’s largest Pediatric Orthopaedic Neuromuscular Program, helping children who have cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and rare conditions.
  • Pediatric Orthopaedic Trauma and Fracture Program – The CHLA Pediatric Orthopaedic Trauma and Fracture Program includes a Level 1 Trauma Center and a walk-in Pediatric Fracture Clinic. The team provides the highest level of care for complex traumatic injuries and fractures, including open fractures, compression fractures and growth plate injuries.
  • Sports Medicine Program – CHLA is the only pediatric Sports Medicine Program in the Greater Los Angeles area, supported by experts who help all types of young athletes prevent injury, recover from injury and lower the risk of re-injury. Additionally, the program includes a Sports Concussion Clinic.

Accolades and Achievements

The COC is a preeminent referral center, attracting families from across the country and around the world. Each component of care—from clinical equipment and surgical techniques to psychosocial support and rehabilitation—has been designed with children in mind.

  • Reputation: The Center is consistently recognized as a top 10 pediatric orthopaedic program by U.S. News & World Report, which issues rankings based on an institution’s clinical volumes, metrics and reputation.
  • Motion Analysis: The Motion and Sports Analysis Laboratory was the first gait lab in California to receive full accreditation from the Commission for Motion Laboratory Accreditation, a distinction held by fewer than 20 labs nationwide. It is also one of the few motion labs in the country with a mobile unit that brings assessment services directly to schools as well as club and recreational sports teams.
  • Research: Approximately 190 research studies are currently underway, all aimed at identifying better ways to diagnose orthopaedic conditions, making treatments more effective and maximizing results. The team’s research findings are routinely featured in prestigious medical publications such as the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. 
  • Education: The Center has one of the largest education programs in the Western U.S., training more than 35 residents and international fellows annually who contribute a valuable, diverse perspective to our clinic.
