As the appointee will lead the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, broad surgical expertise combined with proven leadership experience is required. The successful candidate will also have experience in leading a research group and clinical trials, securing competitive third-party funding, teaching students, supervising theses, and fostering the next generation of academics.
The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery collaborates closely with the Department of Pediatric Cardiology, the Pediatric Anesthesiology, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as units of pediatric surgery. Established partnerships with other departments of the Children's Hospital provide opportunities for collaborations in patient outcome research and developmental pediatrics. Research collaborations also exist with the Institute of Regenerative Medicine of the University of Zurich, particularly in the field of heart valve and blood vessel tissue engineering.
The newly built University Children's Hospital offers state-of-the-art clinical facilities for pediatric surgery, including a hybrid operating room specifically adapted to the needs of pediatric heart surgery, modern diagnostic imaging equipment, and a pediatric intensive care unit. Excellent infrastructure for experimental and clinical research is available in the nearby Research and Teaching Building.
