The GLOBE Institute Globe institute is a newly established department at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. GLOBE consists of five research sections: GeoGenetics, Evolutionary Genomics, Macroecology and Climate, Geobiology and Star and Planet formation, in total hosting more than 230 staff members. More about GLOBE: https://globe.ku.dk The position The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, is looking to recruit a Head of Department for GLOBE Institute with a visionary approach to leadership and an internationally recognised research profile. The Head of Department should have experience in research leadership at institutional or research programme level, and have a natural ability and authority for leading scientific and support staff. The Head of Department is expected to be based full time at GLOBE, where she/he will be expected to establish and maintain a research environment and activities promoting synergy to strengthen the interdisciplinary research and education across the broad research profile of GLOBE. Scientifically, the Head of Department should have the level to be able to obtain a professorship at University of Copenhagen, which will be a criterion in the selection process. We are looking for a Head of Department, who will foster a supportive and collegial environment, in which the employees collectively strive for scientific excellence. The Head of Department will be given the opportunity to develop and shape the Institute further in order to establish and maintain its status as a world-leading research institute. The Head of Department is expected to be active in the international research environment and to engage in the further development of the Institute’s international network and collaborations, within and beyond academia. Moreover, the Head of Department is responsible for ensuring the continuous development of the Institute’s infrastructure, research support, and administration, thereby securing the best possible frame for research, communication, and utilization of research as well as for the institute’s research training and educational programmes. The job The Head of Department has the main responsibility for the scientific profile, strategic development, and focus areas of the institute. In addition, the Head of Department has the economic responsibility for the Institute’s activities. In partnership with the dean, the vice-deans, the faculty director, and the other heads of departments and centres, the Head of Department constitutes the faculty management, who are responsible for the strategic leadership of the faculty. Salary and terms of employment We expect to employ you in a fixed-term position. The employment period is five years with the opportunity of a three-year administrative extension. Starting date is to be determined by agreement. The Head of Department is employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
