The research centre “Ethics of Genome Editing” at the Institute of Ethics and History of Medicine, University of Tübingen, is inviting applications for the position of

Researcher, PhD or Postdoctoral (m/f/d; TV-L E13, 100%)

with a focus on the ethics of genome editing. The position should start at the earliest possible date and will be limited to 3 years. The position is subject to a final funding decision.

The research centre “Ethics of Genome Editing” documents the development of genome editing technologies and explores their normative aspects. The position is intended to be focussed on two areas: First, investigation of new applications of genome editing (for example personalized fertility treatments, epigenome editing, organoid research) and their ethical aspects, and, second, research on related regulatory questions and governance issues. This is a full-time position. The regular working week is currently set at 39.5 hours. The position is fixed-term for three years. The post-holder is encouraged to pursue the post-doctoral degree of Habilitation or the degree of PhD.

Responsibilities 

  • Conduct research on ethical aspects of genome editing.
  • Work with the research group on preparing publications and organizing academic events.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications and management of research projects, as well as in the dissemination of research results.

Requirements

  • A university degree in philosophy (with a focus on ethics or practical philosophy), social science, science and technology studies (STS), law, medicine or related disciplines with a focus on ethics/applied ethics/medical ethics or technology assessment/governance.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Knowledge about ethical or technical aspects of genome editing is desirable.
  • Experience of applying for research grants and managing research projects is desirable.

We offer a salary according to the tariff agreement for state employees (TV-L), salary level E13, as well as all benefits usual in state employment.
