Postdoc Position in Biochemical and Structural Characterization of Membrane Proteins by Cryo-Electron Microscopy A postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis at the University of Bern, Switzerland. The Fotiadis laboratory is working on the elucidation of the molecular working mechanisms of different membrane proteins by structure determination and functional characterization. We are searching for a highly motivated, independent and committed candidate who is willing to tackle challenges in the field of membrane protein research. Candidates should have a Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree and a Ph.D. thesis in molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology or similar disciplines. Practical expertise in protein biochemistry and structure determination by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM; from grid preparation to image processing/3D reconstruction) is requested. The mission of the candidate will be to determine the structure of specific membrane proteins by cryo-EM. Depending on the project, the candidate's work will also include the purification and biochemical characterization (SDS-PAGE, gel filtration, etc.) of corresponding target membrane proteins. Expertise in membrane protein biochemistry (e.g., solubilization and purification) is of advantage.
