We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate and competitive candidate for a fully-funded PhD positions in medicinal chemistry. The successful candidate will perform research in targeted protein degradation, an area of high interest in drug discovery. The candidate will be located at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) Monash University, Parkville campus.

About this position:

The student will be located at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) Monash University, one of Australia’s foremost research organisations with world-leading expertise at the interface of chemistry and biology.

Proteolysis-targeting chimeric molecules (PROTACs) are an emerging technique for targeted protein degradation. Although, this technology is getting much attention due to its potential for therapeutic intervention, it is still at infancy stage and much remains to be learned. This project aims to develop and pharmacological evaluate novel PROTACs and CLIPTACs of therapeutically relevant cancer targets.

The successful applicant will be working in a multidisciplinary research team.

The candidate’s attributes:

Applications are invited from outstanding and enthusiastic graduates with a relevant background in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry.

Domestic students are preferred due to the uncertainty around international travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

We are looking students of high scholarly calibre with:

• A First Class Honours degree, Masters degree or equivalent

• Analytical thinking, data analysis and critical problem solving skills

• Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently

• Applicants with publications will be highly regarded

• Fluency in written and oral English
