Job description

We are looking for a colleague who is passionate about education, in particular within the context of Medicinal Chemistry. You will support the following programmes: BSc Farmaceutische wetenschappen and MSc Drug Discovery and Safety. As junior lecturer, you will be involved in various teaching-related, and organizational activities in both programmes.

as a Junior lecturer you will be encouraged to work on academic innovations and to build a portfolio in the context of education as a preparation for various career paths. To this end, you will have the opportunity to acquire a basic qualification in teaching at university level (‘BKO’). The junior lecturer position is ideally suited for early-career teachers. A full Junior Lecturer Trajectory is 4 years and 2 months.

Your duties

The junior lecturer will be expected to: 

  • be actively involved in supervision of Bachelor internships
  • contribute to several BSc and MSc courses
  • contribute to promotional activities (Outreach) for the programmes
  • initiate and participate in innovation projects to further improve teaching practices
  • assist in coordination and administrative tasks of the programmes

Requirements

The candidate must have completed a Master in Medicinal Chemistry or related, and a proven affinity with education. Candidates who have completed or are close to completing a PhD are particularly encouraged to apply for this position. 

In addition, the candidate must: 

  • be fluent in Dutch and English
  • have strong oral and written communication skills
  • possess good organizational skills
  • be proactive and able to work independently

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,790 (scale 10) and a maximum €4,402 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile:Docent 4 is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE. The employment contract will affect a period of 50 months.

Due to the COVID19-regulations, educational activities will be both online (working from home) and on VU campus if possible. The advice to work from home on a regular basis will continue to apply after June 1 2021, but we expect ‘on campus activities’ at least once a week for our first year’s students.
