The Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry (MMK) is one of the largest departments at the Faculty Science at Stockholm University. A significant part of the teaching activities is at the undergraduate level with courses in General, Physical, Inorganic, and Analytical Chemistry. In Materials Chemistry, we focus on developing and understanding advanced routes for synthesis, processing, production, as well as the use of structural- and functional materials in applications towards a healthy, sustainable and environmental friendly society. Project description The position will be associated with the ERA-NET Forest Value project “BarkBuild” that is coordinated by Assistant Professor Mika Sipponen at MMK. This European consortium project will develop sustainable wood protection and wood-based building materials by using tree bark as a renewable raw material. Main responsibilities The position involves research, teaching, and project management tasks. In particular, the researcher will assist coordination and management of the ERA-NET Forest Value project “BarkBuild”. The person selected for this position will have an opportunity for mentoring and career development towards maturation as an independent teacher-researcher. Qualification requirements Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country. Assessment criteria In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills in the colloidal chemistry and surface science of lignocellulosic biomass. Documented expertise in polymer chemistry and physics and chemistry of surfaces is essential entry requirement for this position. In addition, demonstrated track-record in chemical modification of lignin and characterization of lignin nanoparticles by advanced tools such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy are considered as merits for this position. Terms of employment This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a six-month trial period. Start date 2022-04-01 or as per agreement.
