Associate Professor of Public Health University of Cambridge

Applications are invited to an exciting new opportunity to take up a senior clinical medical academic appointment in Cambridge. The academic base for the post is the Primary Care Unit of the University Department of Public Health and Primary Care, with the clinical base in the Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust Palliative Care Department.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Clinical work as Consultant in Palliative Medicine with the Palliative Care Department across CUH NHS Foundation Trust 1.5 days per week
  • Lead on delivery of the CUH Palliative Care Department's clinical research strategy as part of 0.5 days per week Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) time
  • Lead a personal programme of Palliative Care research, including postgraduate supervision and teaching of clinical and academic colleagues 2 days per week
  • Co-lead medical student Palliative Care teaching in the School of Clinical Medicine 1 day per week

Essential skills, qualifications and experience

  • Registration with General Medical Council and Certificate of Completion of Training in Palliative Medicine
  • Higher degree (PhD, MD or equivalent)
  • Experience and creativity to lead and develop a personal programme of Palliative Care research
  • Record of research publications and research grant income generation
  • Ability to establish a significant teaching and research presence in the university
  • Ability to work collaboratively on health research programmes by contributing Palliative Care and methodological expertise
  • Ability to contribute to post-graduate supervision and teaching of Masters and Doctoral students
  • Ability to contribute to the direction and management of the Primary Care Unit
  • Excellent interpersonal, team-working and communication skills
  • Commitment to professional and personal development
  • Academic synergy with existing strengths within the Primary Care Unit and the Department of Public Health and Primary Care

The successful candidate will hold an Honorary Consultant clinical contract with CUH NHS Foundation Trust.
