The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is seeking for the partner site Frankfurt/Mainz (location Mainz) of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) a Junior Research Group Leader – Cancer Immunotherapy.
We seek to appoint a junior group leader with a strong background in the field of cellular immunotherapy, geneticmodification of immune effector cells, immune gene editing, combinatorial anti-tumor immune therapy, modulation of tumor immune microenvironment, and antitumor immune homeostasis. Competitive applicants are expected to be able to combine basic and translational approaches and should have an exceptional track record of accomplishment, with evident future potential and commitment to translational/applied cancer research.
The DKTK partner site Frankfurt/Mainz and the DKFZ in Heidelberg provide access to first-class state-of-the-art core facilities in Mainz and Heidelberg. Translational research activities are supported by access to large patient cohorts, high quality tumor tissue banks and excellent clinical research facilities. The successful candidate will be employed at DKFZ in Heidelberg. At the same time, he/she will join the Department of Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Pneumology within the University Cancer Center (UCT) of the University Medical Center in Mainz. The junior group leader will be member of the Research Center Immune Intervention at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. Substantial collaborations with local clinical investigators as well as collaboration with other research groups of the DKTK and the DKFZ are explicitly encouraged.
The German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) is a joint initiative of the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), the contributing federal states, the German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe), and the DKFZ. The alliance between the DKFZ as the core center, the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg and the partner sites Berlin, Dresden, Essen/Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Mainz, Freiburg, Heidelberg, München and Tübingen establishes joint translational cancer research units.
The main focus is placed on interdisciplinary research projects and innovative clinical trials that aim to improve prevention and diagnosis of cancer, and to accelerate the implementation of personalized therapies in cancer patients. Internationally competitive funding will be provided for 5 years.
The successful candidate should be able to raise financial support from national and international third-party funds such as the European Community. Upon successful evaluation continuation by endowed professorship is possible. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and / or M.D. degree. An internationally competitive publication record demonstrating scientific excellence is a prerequisite.
