The Department of Biotechnology in the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), an English-medium university located in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment in Biotechnology at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, to serve as Chair of the Biotechnology Department. The successful candidate is expected to begin on August 26, 2015. In addition to his/her administrative work as Chair of the Department, this position requires the successful candidate to teach both theoretical and practical courses in the field of Medical Biotechnology and other related courses. S/he will carry on curriculum review and development, and be closely involved in the content and currency of the courses offered in the program. The candidate will be self-motivated and possess strong management and leadership skills. As Chair of the Department, the candidate will be responsible for achieving the department’s mission in the areas of research, education, community service and social responsibility. Job Description: The successful candidate will: Direct, administer, and coordinate all educational, training, and research-based activities related to the department; Assist in the continued development, promotion and administration of the Biotechnology program; Start a productive and externally-funded research program in the field of medical biotechnology; Participate in teaching theory and practical courses in the field of medical biotechnology, and other related subjects; Mentor and supervise the research work of undergraduate students; Integrate programs and activities within the region’s socio-cultural framework to serve its health needs; Create and further the initiatives of the department; Coordinate student advisement within the department. Competencies The successful candidate for this position will be a proven academic and professional leader, hold a solid record of teaching, scholarly endeavor and be of international standing. Evidence of active and consistent contributions to his/her field must be provided. This will be demonstrated through publishing in internationally recognized and peer-reviewed journals and by regular participation in exhibitions, conferences and other forums. The candidate must have excellent professional writing skills, communications skills and presentation skills.
