Professor/associate professor lighting design

University College of Southeast Norway was established 1 January 2016, and has about 16 000 students and about 1500 employees. The university college is temporarily organized in eight faculties, with instruction and R&D activities on eight campuses. The main profile of the university college is to provide socially relevant education, geared towards specific professions, and adapted to the requirements of the workplace, as well as to produce applied research and development.

Professor/associate professor lighting design

The Faculty of health- and social sciences  has an up vacant permanent position as Professor/Associate professor in lighting design. The posision is up to 100% and is vacant form the 1st of October 2016. Start-up-date will be agreed upon.

The position is affiliated with the Department of Optometry and Visual Science and their bachelor program in Ligthing Design. The appointed candidate will report to the Head of Department. The place of employment will mainly be Campus Kongsberg.

The University College of Southeast-Norway’s initiative in advancing the lighting design profession is an exciting development, through which their portefolio and research will focus on topics that are timely and relevant for advancing the profession’s impact in a broad sense; it is expected that the suitable candidate would contribute to this development including advancement of research activity and contribute to attract external funding and PhD students.

Responsibilities and duties

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out research, supervision and teaching in the field of lighting design.

The successful candidate will lead and initiate research, research supervision, teaching and mentoring of students, fellows and colleagues. The successful applicant is expected to be actively engaged in the lighting design field, to contribute to the further development of existing and new external partnership, and to contribute to the development of national and international networks.

The area lighting design is central to the faculty’s further development of Master programs in visual sciences and the faculty’s PhD programme. It is expected that the appointed professor in lighting design will contribute actively to the development of post graduate programmes.

The position may be assigned lecturing and supervision tasks at the Faculty’s lighting design programmes, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Web-based training and technology-enhanced learning is an expanding part of university education and a prioritised area of development. The successful candidate is expected to supervise and teach students using online tools and digital media.

An ongoing reorganizing effort may affect the position's responsibilities, duties and line of work.

Qualifications

Professor in lighting design/architectural lighting design or applicant with a PhD in the field of architecture, design or technology.

For appointment as professor an academic level in accordance with established international or national standards is required. The applicant should possess pedagogical competence involving at least a half-year Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, or a shorter university college pedagogy course. Applicants who do not possess such pedagogical qualifications may be employed on the condition that they acquire such qualifications within three years of the date of their employment.

The successful applicant should have a broad and solid background and research expertise in lighting design. He/she must be able to demonstrate expertise in one or more areas of research.

The successful applicant must have the ability to work independently and be motivated to share knowledge and collaborate. The successful applicant must be able to teach in English and one of the Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish) or aquire this competence.

If no qualified applicants apply for a permanent position as professor, a temporary three-year appointment may be made if the expert committee consider that the person selected will be able to acquire the necessary qualifications to be appointed to a professorship within the first three years of employment. A new expert assessment will be completed by the end of this period.

For appointment as associate professor (førsteamanuensis), it is required that applicants hold a Norwegian doctorate within the relevant field, or equivalent foreign doctoral degree or qualifications at the same level documented by scientific production of equivalent scope and quality.

Salary
The position as professor is remunerated by agreement. Position as associate professor (førsteamanuensis) (code 1011) is remunerated by salary grade 57-72, constituting NOK 483 700-640 700 per annum. A higher salary may be considered in some cases. Salary placement is dependent on seniority and competence. A statutory contribution will be made to the state pension.

Additional information

The Academic Appointments Board is responsible for appointments to academic positions at University College of Southeast Norway. An expert committee will evaluate the applications. On the basis of the committee’s recommendations, short-listed applicants will be called in for interviews and must be prepared to give a practice lecture.
