Assistant Professor of Anatomy McGill University, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology
The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University is calling for nominations for an assistant professor position leading to tenure. We are seeking candidates well established in the field of structural biology and interested in the development of new computational methods for image processing, interpretation of structures and integration tools for combining data obtained in cryo-electron microscopy of single particles, positron and electron optical correlative microscopy (CLEM). We strongly encourage those with a professional background in computer science, mathematics or physics and experience in integrating new ideas and mathematical methods to the new image processing tools to apply for this job. Applicants must hold a PhD in biological sciences, computer science, mathematics or physics and have a significant postdoctoral experience in structural biology of proteins, cell biology or so of experience in integrating new ideas and mathematical methods for image processing tools. the candidate will build an independent research program and will have ample opportunity to work with the growing community of specialists in structural biology at McGill University. The successful candidate will also play a central role in the development and implementation of the vision of the Department, which aims to create an environment able to meet the growing computational demands of high resolution electron microscopy. Ideally, the candidate is already working in a field that is consistent with the main thrusts of the Department (dynamic extracellular matrix, cytoskeletal and signaling mechanisms, membrane proteins and macromolecular machines). The successful candidate will also have the task of teaching in undergraduate programs and graduate programs, to contribute to the academic management of the Department and, in general, of the University in addition to promoting the discipline of electron microscopy or correlative microscopy in activities University and community. the Department of anatomy and cell biology offers a dynamic scientific environment, as well as electron microscopy facilities at the cutting edge (http://www.mcgill.ca/femr ). The FEMR (Facility for Electron Microscopy Research - Electron Microscopy Research Facility) has 5 transmission electron microscopes (TEM), FEI Titan Krios including a model with phase plates, automated handling of cryogenic samples and direct electronic detection device a model FEI Tecnai G2 F20 with CCD camera 4000 x 4000 with a GIF image filter and an EDAX analysis system, a model FEI Tecnai G2 Spirit and FEI Tecnai model 12. FEMR recently the acquisition of a new scanning electron microscope FEI Helios Nanolab 660 to focused ion beam and a FEI CorrSight system to perform optical-electronic correlative microscopy experiments (CLEM). salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and the experience of the candidate.
