PhD Position in Molecular Genetics Ghent University, Department of Biomedical molecular biology
Job descriptionWe are looking for a motivated scientist to start a new PhD project on “Zinc as a key determinant in susceptibility for sepsis via impact on intestinal cells, metabolism and microbiome.” Research context: Zinc is an essential metal, absolutely required for an optimal immune system. In large parts of the world, people suffer from mild to serious Zn deficiency, which is supposed to have a major impact on the risk for lethal acute inflammation such as sepsis. In this project, we will address the molecular biology behind the protective activities of Zn, making use of mutant mice, sepsis models, RNASEQ, CHIPSEQ and many more modern genetic techniques. We will focus on the intestinal epithelium, metabolism and microbiome and cross-talk between the major Zn sensing transcription factor MTF1 and glucocorticoids. Profile of the candidate
