Full Professor of Veterinary Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacy (1.0 fte) 

Description and position of the Chair 

The Chair of Veterinary Pharmacotherapy & Pharmacy (VPP) is a full time position at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. The chair holder is responsible for all education and research in veterinary pharmacotherapy and pharmacy as well as the consultancy of the clinical pharmacy unit. Apart from the Chair, the unit currently consists of assistant professors, a junior lecturer (resident ECVPT/PhD candidate), technicians and clinical pharmacists. The Chair will be positioned within the Toxicology and Pharmacology Division (headed by prof. dr. Martin van den Berg) of the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), which is a department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. 
The Veterinary Pharmacy is a joint business unit of the three clinical departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, department of Equine Sciences, department of Farm Animal Health). The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine considers expertise and innovation in the field of Veterinary Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacy to be cornerstones in high quality clinical practice and invaluable in the education and training of veterinary students at BSc and MSc level. 

Primary tasks of the chair are:
  • Responsible for research and all teaching and consultancy in the field of veterinary pharmacotherapy and pharmacy, and the scientific, teaching and consultancy activities of the clinical pharmacists.
  • Training of residents for the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
  • Taking an active role in the professional and societal debate on pharmacotherapy and pharmacy in veterinary practice.
  • Actively seeking clinical, educational and research collaboration with colleagues at the three clinical departments Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Farm Animal Health, and Equine Sciences, and at the department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology.
  • Promoting and building scientific collaboration with other research groups of Utrecht University, in particular with the translational pharmacotherapy groups at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Faculty of Science and the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU).
Qualifications:
  • Veterinarian and diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT) or the American College of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacotherapy (ACVCP).
  • An established academic and research reputation in the area of veterinary pharmacotherapy and its translation into applied therapeutics, including the treatment and prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases in all relevant animal species.
  • A strong commitment to and excellent skills in teaching and the development of education programmes within the broad area of veterinary pharmacotherapy and pharmacy at the BSc, MSc and postgraduate level.
  • A track record of successful leadership and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • A sustained record of successful research grant funding.
  • Excellent communication skills in the scientific and public domain.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) and in Dutch, or the willingness to learn basic Dutch within the first year.

Offer 
We offer a full-time permanent position. The gross salary varies, depending on previous qualifications and experience, between EUR 5.219,- and EUR 7.599,- gross per month (full time appointment in scale H2 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities). 

Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year. In addition, there are outstanding secondary benefits such as a minimum of 29 days holiday per year, study facilities, and a pension plan. More information is available at: terms of employment.
