The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three year contractually limited term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Pharmacology and Toxicology. The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2017.
We are seeking an outstanding individual with the ability to contribute significantly to undergraduate, graduate and professional education. Our goal is to recruit an individual with research expertise and excellent teaching abilities that align with the Department’s Education and Professional Experience program. In particular, we are seeking an individual with previous experience of undergraduate and graduate education in the areas of pharmacology and toxicology in drug discovery and development; pharmacokinetics and biomedical toxicology. We are seeking an individual with experience in overseeing and coordinating experiential education for both undergraduates and graduate students in a Pharmacology & Toxicology program. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses in 'Pharmacology and Toxicology in Drug Discovery and Development’ and for overseeing the Professional Experience Year (PEY) Program and Graduate Clinical Practicum Internship Program. The position will require experience in liaising and relationship building with partners in the pharmaceutical, government and academic research sectors.
Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in pharmacology, toxicology or pharmaceutical sciences. The candidate should have significant post-doctoral research experience in pharmacology and toxicology and a well-established track record of delivering undergraduate and graduate education and professional development in Pharmacology & Toxicology. Candidates will have evidence of innovation in Pharmacology & Toxicology education. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Experience and demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activity are an asset. This can be demonstrated through excellent course evaluations, a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to evidence of excellent pedagogical practice, and/or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, or excellent conference posters or presentations.
Experience related to excellent pedagogical practice as it applies to teaching large classes will be considered an asset.
