Assistant Professor of Bioinformatics University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine

The Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research invites applications for a tenure-stream position in computational biology or bioinformatics. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor, and will commence on Sept 1, 2017.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member of the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research. S/he will also be cross-appointed to the Department of Molecular Genetics.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral training in computational sciences (computational biology, bioinformatics or quantitative biology). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek an emerging researcher with an exceptional research record, as evidenced by research publications in top journals, scientific presentations, and letters of reference, and excellent teaching credentials. The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative research in computational biology at the highest international level; to establish a strong, externally funded research program; to have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and to participate actively in the Donnelly Centre and Department of Molecular Genetics. The candidate will participate in the Quantitative Biology in Molecular Genetics (QBMG) and the Computational Biology in Molecular Genetics (CBMG) Ph.D. tracks, offered through the Department of Molecular Genetics. The QBMG track trains students, who initially specialized in computer science, physics, chemistry, mathematics or other quantitative disciplines, with a foundation in modern biology. The CBMG provides students who have been primarily trained in biology with an immersive computational biology curriculum.

Qualified candidates are invited to apply online by clicking on the link below. Applicants should submit a single PDF that includes (in order): 1) a one-page summary that includes education/training history, citations of the applicant’s most important publications (up to five), and a 350-word abstract of their research plan; 2) a cover letter; 3) a curriculum vitae; 4) a statement of current and long-term research interests (three to five pages); and 5) a statement of teaching interests (one page). Submission guidelines can be found at http://uoft.me/how-to-apply
