Job Description for Recruiting Professor in Dentistry in which the discipline has been determined as Prosthetic Dentistry and Stomatognathic Physiology The post concerned is a professorship in Dentistryin which the discipline has been determined as Prosthetic Dentistry and Stomatognathic Physiology and it belongs to the Research Unit of Oral Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu.

Research of the Faculty of Medicine is mainly focused on “Molecular and environmental basis for lifelong health” in which we generate greater understanding of the factors that affect health during life and how this knowledge can be translated into the benefit of lifelong health exploring human life from fetal development to old age, including molecular and physiological properties, and environmental, social and psychosocial factors. In addition, we promote learning into the possibilities of combining ICT with health and service research to create new innovations in connected health. Job Responsibilities, Required Qualifications and Language Proficiency
The professor is responsible for developing teaching and research in prosthetic dentistry and stomatognathic physiology. The person nominated to the post is expected to develop co-operation with parties acting at the University of Oulu, in other Finnish Universities, in the Municipal Health Service sector and with International parties.
Under the section 33 of the Universities Act, a professor shall carry out and supervise scientific work, give education based on it and follow developments in science and participate in societal interaction and international cooperation in his/her field.
The required qualifications for the professor in Dentistry include a doctoral degree, high quality scientific competence, experience in supervising scientific research, ability to give high quality education based on research and supervision of doctoral theses, as well as evidence of international collaboration in his/her field of research.
The candidates to be considered for the post should have familiarity with the field concerned i.e. specialist competence in prosthetic dentistry and stomatognathic physiology.
When assessing the applicant’s merits, issues taken into consideration include scientific publications and other research achievements, teaching experience and pedagogical training as well as the skill to create teaching material and other teaching merits. In addition to this, the merits that will be taken into consideration are the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, practical familiarity with the field concerned, and success in acquiring supplementary funding, scientific work abroad and other international activities.
Professor to be nominated should be evaluated also regarding the suitability of their research into the above-mentioned focus areas.
The teaching language at the University of Oulu is Finnish. Teaching in English is also possible. Salary The salary will be based on the levels 8 – 10 of the demand level chart for teaching and research personnel of the salary system of Finnish Universities.
