Research Associate Computational Biology/Plant Bioinformatics Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Institute of Plant Genetics
• Development and application of methods for the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data with the aim to associate genome-wide patterns of variation with phenotypic variation in natural and breeding populations • Application of mapping-by-sequencing or similar methods for the detection of causal genes and gene variants • Analysis of transcriptome data to identify and describe molecular networks • The candidate is expected to develop his/her own research projects and apply for third-party funding • Supervision of B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD students and teaching in the subjects of plant genetics, genomics
Our requirements:
• A completed scientific university education (M.Sc.) in the field of bioinformatics, computational biology, quantitative genetics, biostatistics or a similar subject • Experience in the bioinformatic and statistical analysis of high-throughput sequencing data for the detection of genetic variants and expression variation in complex genomes • Proficiency in R programming, Unix (Linux), scripting and bioinformatics tools and databases • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written) • High motivation, team spirit, scientific creativity and interest in solving biological problems in plant sciences Any of the following additional qualifications would be an • PhD in bioinformatics, plant genomics, plant biology, quantitative biology or related disciplines • Expertise in writing scientific publications and grant applications • Expertise in supervising students and in teaching The pay scale grouping will be, depending on the personal qualification of the applicant, up to pay grade 13 TV-L.
In principle, the employment can also take place part-time if no compelling official reasons are opposed in an individual case.
