Project description
The project will focus on developing knowledge of the extent to which organizational and psychosocial factors at work as well as factors related to unpaid housework may explain the increase in mental disorders and sick leave for such illness in some industries and professions in Sweden. The first research question is whether the increase in mental illness among employees in female-dominated industries and occupations in recent years has been associated with negative changes in organizational and psychosocial factors in these activities. The focus will be on the relationship between gender segregation in the workplace and mental health and how this relationship is mediated by organizational and psychosocial factors. The second research question concerns more specifically labor and living conditions among workers in contact professions. Here, a large number of psychosocial work factors, time of contact work in paid and unpaid work, as well as work-related rewards, such as salary, will be examined. The aim is to develop knowledge about the extent to which differences in these factors could explain the differences in the mental ill health and sickness absence between a) contact and other professionals, b) the various types of contact professions and c) men and women of the same type of connector profession. Both research questions referred to studied data from slosh. The project includes advanced statistical modeling of these longitudinal data.
