CLINICAL SENIOR LECTURERS, CLINICAL LECTURERS
Newcastle University UK opened its international branch campus for medicine in Iskandar Puteri (formerly Nusajaya), Johor in August 2011, and offers the Newcastle UK MBBS programme. These posts will appeal to established clinician teachers with significant UK experience who are looking for a fresh and exciting challenge, or high calibre senior UK trainees who are seeking a stimulating and varied career. Such posts are offered as fixed term posts, usually between two and five years. These posts may also appeal to established UK clinicians who wish to take a career break from current NHS posts.
All posts will be filled by practising clinicians, who will continue clinical practice integrated with teaching. As such these posts are suitable for registered medical practitioners, either fully trained or in training for specialist level or general practice positions, holding a primary medical degree from a university recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council. We are looking to recruit across all specialties especially, but not limited to, General Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and General Surgery. Experience of the working of the UK Foundation Programme would be particularly welcome as our graduates have the option of dual accreditation with the GMC.
Successful applicants will play a major role in co-ordinating, directing and delivering undergraduate teaching, as well as contributing to the local Malaysian health service. Teaching will take place at the NUMed Malaysia campus, Ministry of Health Hospitals, community health centres and other clinical facilities in the state of Johor, Malaysia. There is an expectation that posts will be taken up in 2017 in order to allow the appointee to undertake a local induction and orientation well before the start of the academic year 2017/18, but if candidates are not available at that time another start date can be negotiated. Informal enquiries may be made in the UK to Dr Philippa Marsden, Deputy Director of Medical Studies (Philippa.Marsden@ncl.ac.uk), Professor Roger Barton, Provost Newcastle University Malaysia (Roger.Barton@newcastle.edu.my), or to Professor Rudy Bilous Dean of Clinical Affairs (rudy.bilous@newcastle.edu.my).
The closing date for applications is Friday 24 February 2017. Interviews are anticipated to be held in March 2017.
