Postdoctoral Position in Epithelial Stem Cell Biology Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division

The postdoc project will be conducted in Maria Genander’s research group. Website for the lab http://ki.se/en/cmb/maria-genanders-group

Duties

Tissue development and homeostasis requires stem cells. Our research group is interested in understanding the mechanisms that influence the choice between stem cell self-renewal and differentiation. We use epithelial stem cell niches such as the skin and intestine to elucidate the mechanisms in place to secure stem cell establishment and long term maintenance, and aim at understanding how these instructive cues go awry in diseases such as cancer.

The lab work predominantly with mouse models and use conventional mouse genetics, in utero lentiviral gene manipulation, next generation sequencing and ChIP-Seq to evaluate in vivo alterations in gene expression and genome wide binding patterns of transcription factors.

The advertised projects aim at understanding the role of bHLH transcription factors in intestinal stem cells using an established mouse model.

Entry requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in biomedicine or related area. We expect the candidate to have a strong scientific background with relevant expertise in cell biology. Previous experience working with mouse models is an advantage. Good knowledge of both spoken and written English is a requirement.

A person is eligible for this postdoctoral scholarship if he/she did receive her PhD within the last two years.

Application process

An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
