Postdoctoral researcher, physiotherapy, for a fixed period of at the most four years starting from 1 January 2018.
Education and research in sport sciences in Finland are concentrated at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences of the University of Jyväskylä. Physical activity and health, as well as their relationships and promotion, are explored there from a multidisciplinary perspective, with the improvement of health, functional ability and wellbeing across the human lifespan as the key aim.
An important national responsibility of the faculty is teacher education in sport and health sciences. There are two main lines of study at the faculty: Sport Sciences and Health Sciences. There are three disciplinary groups at the faculty: Biology of Physical Activity, Behavioral and Social Sciences of Sport and Health Sciences. The faculty also has three research centres: the Neuromuscular Research Centre, Gerontology Research Center and Research Centre for Health Promotion.
The duties of a postdoctoral researcher focus on research tasks in the researcher’s field of science. The duties also include teaching in the researcher’s field of science. The postdoctoral researcher is also expected to contribute to high-quality competitive research funding applications. The duties also include guidance of students and participating in the development of teaching in the department. The postdoctoral researcher period offers opportunities to promote the applicant’s research career and become a more independent researcher. Therefore, priority is given to applicants who have completed their doctoral degree at the most five years before the end of the application period.
The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.
The job-specific salary component of a postdoctoral researcher is based on the job demands level 5–6 (€2,865.30–€3,340.77 /month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46.3% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.
A trial period of four months will be used when the position is first filled.
