Job Purpose
At Sharjah Institute for Medical Research, basic, translational clinical research and educational activities related to cancer, diabetes and Asthma are carried out. Approximately 50 faculty members from over 40 nations are currently working at the institute. 14 research groups with various research profiles are involved and we have around 15 PhD, 20 MSc students and more than 20 research assistants, technicians and postdocs. The institute combines state-of-the-art equipment with a broad knowledge in translational medicine, pharmaceutical and molecular biosciences.
One of the important goals of the institute is to develop and use proteomics methods to improve and discover new personalized therapy. We are currently engaged in projects to analyze the proteome landscape of several different disease states, including cancer and diabetes, with the aim to identify and validate key pathways, novel biomarkers and drug targets. In addition we are in a process of developing and applying methods for functional proteomics through post translational modification analysis and subcellular proteomics. Therefore, we are in need to strengthen our institute with a researcher in applied proteomics.
Main accountabilities & expectations
We are looking for an outstanding researcher in applied proteomics. In addition to maintaining an independent research track, the researcher should serve 50% of his/her time in teaching biochemistry, biological/proteomic sciences to both undergraduate and graduate students at the College of Pharmacy and 50% of his/her time as a researcher in Sharjah Institute for Medical Research.
- Manage projects and serve as an expert in applied proteomics
- Maintain an independent and internationally competitive research program
- Supervise postdocs, graduate students and technical personnel in research projects on applied proteomics
- Apply for external funding - both national and international
- Actively participate in academic, industry and health care collaborations
- Furnish his/her labs with Proteomics Mass Spectrometry and other needed facilities
- Teach biochemistry, biological/proteomic sciences to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Preferred Qualification & Experience
- PhD in biology, biochemistry, medicine or other related relevant field.
- Relevant international postdoctoral experience in proteomics-based mass spectrometry
- Extensive knowledge of system biology and translational research.
- Documented knowledge and practical experience of developing MS-based proteomics methods.
- Expertise in proteomics and proteo-genomics analysis.
- Expertise in systems biology/systems medicine, large-scale data analysis, integration and visualization.
- A solid understanding of cell- and molecular experimental methods.
- Experience of collaboration between different disciplines.
- A proven academic track record, including high-impact and highly cited publications and teaching record.
