Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a part time position as Associate Professor in Anatomy for a 2 year period, commencing on 1 July 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is 1/3 of full time.

About us 

Section for Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology and Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences teaches Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology at several BSc and MSc curricula and has a strong research profile in stem cells and embryology. In 2017, the project EliteOva, supported ny Innovation Fund Denmark, was launched with the focus of implementing in vitro production and genomic selection of embryos in Danish cattle breeding.  

 

Job description 

In considering applications for the Associate Professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of in vitro production of bovine embryos. 

 

 

The Associate Professor’s duties will primarily consist of: 

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination   

  • Research-based teaching at pre- and postgraduate levels, including associated examination  

  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers   

  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate   

  • Academic assessments  

  • In vitro production (IVP) of bovine embryos including in vitro oocyte maturation, in vitro fertilization and in vitro culture of the resultant embryos 

  • Optimization of the IVP system in order to achieve the highest efficiency from the full chain of ovum-pick-up, culture, cryopreservation, logistic transfer of oocytes and embryos and collection of biopsies from the embryos. 

  • Supervision of guest researchers and students in the IVP laboratory. 

  • Submission of publications at the highest international level reporting on the items above. 

 

Required qualifications  

The successful applicant should be able to: 

  • Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline 

  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer 

  • Provide research-based teaching 

  • Formal pedagogical qualifications and a record of teaching in pharmaceutical analytical sciences and must be able to provide research-based teaching 

  • Ability to attract external funding from both national and international sources 

  • Research-based collaborations together with industrial partners 

  • Ensure efficient and constructive communication and collaboration between academic and industrial partners within the EliteOva consortium as well as with external partners.  

  • Extensive experience with bovine IVP in commercial world-wide settings will be considered as an explicit additional qualification 

  • Background as a DVM will be considered an additional qualification in relation to OPU and transfer of embryos 

 

Documented experience in securing comprehensive external funding for research is considered a central criterion for employment as Associate professor. 

 

The Associate professor is required to be enterprising by nature, rich in initiative, and to possess good interpersonal skills. The applicant is expected to have a good international network. 

 

If the applicant for the position as Associate Professor has had no previous teaching experience through employment as an Assistant Professor or has not achieved corresponding teaching experience, the appointment will be probationary for 1½ years. 

 

Fluency in English is considered essential. The Faculty generally encourages employees who do not speak Danish to acquire a working knowledge of the language within few years. 

 

Terms of employment 

The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.

The further process 

Shortlist: After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.
