Lecturer (Above the Bar) in Medical Education 0.5 FTE The Undergraduate Medical Curriculum has undergone major restructuring. The 5 year course is now integrated and systems based and student numbers have also increased substantially. Approximately a third of our annual intake is from outside the EU. The curriculum is delivered at the central hospital sites of University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital in Galway and in addition at a number of new regional Medical Academies located at Sligo University Hospital, Letterkenny University Hospital, Mayo University Hospital and Portiuncla Hospital. In addition there are expanding clinical placements in General Practice. The proposed new post of Lecturer Above the Bar in Medical Education (0.5 FTE) will be an appointment to the School of Medicine and will cross all clinical disciplines. The post holder will help to design and coordinate the delivery of teaching to undergraduate medical students under the supervision of the Head of School in consultation with the Director of the Undergraduate Medical Programme. The successful applicant will have a medical degree (level 8) and a higher degree to at least level 9 and will be enrolled on or have completed a postgraduate qualification in medical education. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and supervision of both undergraduate medical students. Other duties will include assessment and scholarly contributions to medical education. The successful candidate will have an emerging track record in research and publication and will be expected to contribute to the research agenda of the School of Medicine.
